Laurel Lake Chorale welcomes new singers

Published:

The Laurel Lake Encore Chorale is recruiting new singers -- age 55 and older -- for its winter/spring 2013 season.

The season starts Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. at Laurel Lake Retirement Community, 200 Laurel Lake Drive in Hudson.

Under the direction of Donna Anderson, singers will learn about vocal technique and rehearse a repertoire that includes Aaron Copland's "Zion's Walls," "Simple Gifts" and "Ching A Ring Chaw"; Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band" in a lively medley with "Play A Simple Melody," "Blue Skies" and "Puttin' on the Ritz"; a lush arrangement for men's chorus of "Down In The Valley," and more.

Two spring concert dates will be announced for late May.

Encore Creativity for Older Adults (www.encorecreativity.org) is the nation's largest and fastest growing choral program for older adults.

Encore stands for artistic excellence, physical and mental benefits, and the chance to socialize with people who love music. Encore Chorales are open to all singers age 55 and up who love to rehearse and perform four-part choral music.

At Laurel Lake, Encore rehearses every Tuesday from 3 to 4:15 p.m. in the Community Room, with the first rehearsal set for Jan. 8.

There are no auditions and participation is free. All singers, and especially men, are invited to join.

For more information, call Anderson at 330-285-7516.
