Hudson School Notes: Holiday Sharing continues to Nov. 19

The Hudson Schools Holiday Sharing Program will take place through Nov. 19. Donated items will be distributed to Hudson families just prior to Thanksgiving. Send items to school and have children place them in the specially marked collection boxes. Each building will be assigned the following items for collection:

Evamere (76 N. Hayden Parkway): Foil; plastic wrap; napkins; plastic food storage containers with lids; re-sealable plastic bags with zippers; shampoo; soap.

McDowell (280 N. Hayden Parkway): Boxed side dishes; boxed helper for hamburger mixed meals; mittens; gloves; scarves; hats.

Ellsworth Hill (7750 Stow Road): Boxed side dishes; boxed helper for hamburger mixed meals; socks.

East Woods (120 N. Hayden Parkway): Fourth-graders -- Boxed desserts; fifth-graders --toothpaste; toothbrushes.

Hudson Middle School (77 N. Oviatt St.): Canned goods; monetary contributions for fruit baskets and gift cards.

Hudson High School (2500 Hudson-Aurora Road): Canned goods; toys; contributions for gift cards.

Seton to host open house Nov. 18

Seton Catholic School of Hudson, 6923 Stow Road, will host an open house Nov. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet faculty, visit the classrooms, and tour the building.

Seton is an independent regional coeducational Catholic elementary school serving families from five counties and more than 20 communities. Kindergarten through eighth grade; one campus schedule for all students; and an extended day program are available. Admissions information and applications for all grades for the 2013-14 academic year will be available.

Gloria Dei hosts Fabulous Fridays

Gloria Dei Lutheran Preschool will continue its fall series of "Fabulous Fridays" in November. Parents can enjoy a few hours to run errands or just relax while their children attend the preschool's enrichment program. The events are open to the public. Led by preschool staff, children will participate in various themed days.

Nov. 16 is all about "What we are thankful for." On, Nov. 30, children can wear pajamas to a Pajama Party. All children 3 to 5 are welcome. Sessions run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $10/day for Gloria Dei preschoolers and $15/day for children not enrolled in the preschool. Bring a (nut free) sack lunch. College Note

Aislinn Sharkey of Hudson has been accepted to Ashland University for the fall semester of 2013. Sharkey, who is a senior at Hudson High School, will receive the Director's Scholarship of $10,000 annually to attend Ashland University.

Hoban students
named semifinalists

Two Hudson residents who attend Archbishop Hoban High School have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition: Sam Smartnick, the son of Anthony and Cheryl Smartnick, and Matt Onders, the son of Michael and Debra Onders.

The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Students were eligible for the NMSC competition by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
