AKRON, Ohio – Summer Safari, the Akron Zoo’s largest fundraising event of the year, will take place Friday, August 8, 2014, from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. The event includes a night of food, animals, auctions and live entertainment, with all proceeds benefiting the Akron Zoo and its conservation programs.
During the event the entire zoo will be open and guests can enjoy up-close animal encounters while sampling food from some of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers while strolling through the zoo.
Jim and Diana Snider are the 2014 Honorary Chairs and Leigh Greenfelder is the 2014 Committee Chair. Tickets for Summer Safari start at $75. Summer Safari is presented by the Lehner Family Foundation and Robert O. & Annamae Orr Family Foundation. Summer Safari is for adults 21 and older.
The zoo will also hold a raffle and silent auction to raise money during the event. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. Participants can enter to win a $1000 Visa Gift Card, set of four tires provided by Firestone Complete Auto Care along with 20 tickets to an Akron RubberDucks game, a pair of matching his and hers Raleigh Hybrid Comfort bikes courtesy of Falls Wheel & Wrench Bike Shop or a Go Zips package, which includes four season tickets to all University of Akron football, Men’s and Women’s soccer, Men’s and Women’s basketball, and Women’s volleyball games or four tickets to four Akron Zoo events of the winner’s choosing. Silent auction items will include paintings by zoo animals, a one-day hopper pass for four people for admission to four parks at Disney World and Akron Zoo experiences.
The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and admission is $11 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $8 for children (ages 2-14). Children under two are free and parking is $3.00. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call (330) 375-2550.
