Actors' Summit, Akron's professional theater, announces the production of "Ring of Fire, the music of Johnny Cash," with a preview performance on May 1 with the official opening on May 2.
"Ring Of Fire," through performances of the music Cash recorded through his 60-year career, attempts to reveal the character of this American icon. In the production, no one attempts to imitate Johnny Cash. The production features a cast of four actor- singer-musicians, plus three additional back up musicians.
"The 34 songs in the show only scratches the surface of an artist who recorded 96 albums," said Neil Thackaberry, director of the production. "Recently his son announced that another album of previously unreleased songs was published less than a month ago."
The show is scheduled for a 16-performance run, closing on May 25. Performances are given Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., and take place at Greystone Hall, in downtown Akron. The show is appropriate for all ages. A free dessert reception with the cast follows the opening night performance May 2.
Tickets for "Ring Of Fire" are on sale now through the box office at 330-374-7568 and online at www.actorssummit.org. Preview tickets on May 1 are $20. Tickets for all other performances are $33 for adults, $28 for seniors over 65; and $10 for all full time students under 30.
The theater is on the sixth floor of historic Greystone Hall in downtown Akron. The facility features barrier free access, free parking, and full bar service.
