Canton, OH - Reigning State Champions – Malone University – will host the 2014 Platinum Chef Intercollegiate Cooking Competition on April 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the campus located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue N.W. in Canton.
Malone University students employed by AVI Fresh – the university’s dining services provider – will participate in the competition. The Malone team will be selected after a campus-wide Platinum Chef competition will decide which team will advance to the intercollegiate challenge.
Last year’s Pioneer Cooks came out on top at the state-wide “cook-off” held at Kenyon College, besting teams from the University of Mount Union, Kenyon College, and Hiram College.
Celebrity Guest Chef will be Chef Steve Schimlor, owner of Crop Bistro in Cleveland, Ohio.
As has become the tradition, the winning team will take home and display the Macheca Trophy which was designed in honor of the late Nick Macheca, a Sous Chef at the University of Mount Union.
The Platinum Chef Contest is a student special event designed as a cooking competition to promote creativity, team work, and an overall good time. This will be Malone’s fourth appearance at the annual competition. Each team creates an appetizer, entrée and dessert from a select pantry of food items that include one mystery ingredient. The teams then present their courses to a panel of five judges who judge their culinary creations on creativity, taste, presentation, sanitation, and team work.
