Broadways Summer camp 2014

Features: For teens ages 14-19. This year's camp is being offered in partnership with the resident company Cleveland Play House and their production of "Maurice Hines is Tappin' Thru Life." Broadway professionals who have performed in "Anything Goes," "Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark" and Disney's "The Lion King" will lead master classes throughout the week. The camp focuses on the triple threat of musical theater -- acting, singing and dancing. Students leave the camp with a professional headshot and resume. Registration also includes a ticket to "Maurice Hines is Tappin' Thru Life."

The Music Settlement Summer Camps-Music Builders

When: June 23-July 3, half days 8:15-noon, or 1-5 p.m.; full day 8:15 a.m.-5 p.m.

Features: For ages 5 through 17. Current Suzuki violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, or piano students join the TMS Suzuki faculty & guest clinicians for instruction and fun.

Hudson Community Education & Recreation-Theatre Camp

When: June 9-27, or July 7-25, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Where: East Woods School, 120 N. Hayden Pkwy., Hudson

Cost: Each session is $380. ($405 after May 30) Cost is $695 for both, if paid by June 4

Features: For children in grades three through nine. Explore workshops in acting, voice, dance, crafts and outdoor activities. Be part of a fully-staged musical production. All students are assured a speaking role. Performances are at Hudson High School.

Audition Workshop

When: July 7-11, 1:30-4:30 p.m.

Features: For ages 7 to 16. This workshop will help students understand the audition process and create an audition package consisting of: an acting resume and a memorized audition piece. Audition pieces can be selected from the following: a dramatic monologue, comedic monologue, classical monologue or a musical theatre audition piece with movement.

Character Workshop

When: July -11, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Features: For ages 7 to 16. Students will focus on the understanding of creating a character -- creating a physical life, voices, understanding given circumstances in the world of the play and understanding how your character is different from you. Students will discover many ways a character can behave, think, feel, experience things and express themselves differently than the actor. Students will have the opportunity to apply these skills through scene work, which will be presented on the final day of class.

Summer Stock: Shakespeare's Scenes, Sonnets & Swords!

When: July 28-Aug. 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Features: For ages 13 to 19. A workshop designed for students who have already had some theatrical experience. Students will produce and design a full production to be performed on our mainstage. This summer, students will be performing "Shakespeare's Scenes, Sonnets & Swords!" featuring some of the best known scenes and swordfights from Shakespeare's plays. The final performance will be held on August 9 at 7:00 p.m.

Features: K.I.D. Camp seeks to introduce and develop basic performing skills in young people through age-appropriate classes in acting, singing and dancing. Classes are balanced with rehearsals, so that students can apply concepts learned in their class to their work onstage.

Brush Up Your Shakespeare at the Illusion Factory

When: July 22-Aug. 2; ages 5-8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m; ages 9-15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Western Reserve Playhouse Youth Theatrical Classes

When: June 9-28, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Features: For ages 7 to 17. All students will work on stage, learning vocalization, improvisation, movement, how to create a character and how to work with other actors. All participants will perform in the play or work backstage if preferred. Instruction will also include, auditioning for parts, reading through scripts, vocalization exercises, stage work, how casting works, theater etiquette, script work, improv, character creation, theatre terms, props, set work, scene work, and rehearsing.
