Author to present book at Laurel Lake

Joyce Wiedie to talk about her book 'Thelma's Diary'

Published:

Author Joyce Wiedie will present her book "Thelma's Diary" at Laurel Lake Retirement Community on Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.

Wiedie has published her husband's Aunt Thelma's travel journal in its entirety, with annotations for names of places and people. Thelma and her sister Marge drove cross-country to take in the sights of America, which included a Texas dust storm and seeing the homes of Hollywood stars. Boarding the S. S. President Hoover in San Francisco, they soon became accustomed to what would be months of cocktail parties, baskets of orchids and dancing with handsome deck officers. They spent time in Hawaii, Japan and China, spent a week at the Goodyear plantation in the Philippines, and ate fettucine Alfredo made by Alfredo himself.
