Akron, Ohio – The Akron Zoo is proud to announce their participation in One Million Actions for Planet Earth, a program that inspires people to share their green and sustainable activity on the myActions social platform. A collaboration with Arctic Action Teams (AAT), this program hopes that combined efforts from around the world will total one million actions by Earth Day.
“Our members have already sprung into action to help the zoo and the planet,” said Akron Zoo President & CEO L. Patricia Simmons. “We hope that participating in this groundbreaking new program will make us known as a key leader in sustainability in Summit County.”
Actions shared on the site trigger virtual rewards, measure the real world impact of individual actions, and generate a small donation to the person’s favorite Akron Zoo conservation project which include red wolves, lions, and penguins for this initial campaign.
“myActions is a platform where anyone can digitally share their real world green and sustainable actions to amplify their impact in a tangible way” said Kristine Sturgeon, president of myActions. “We are thrilled to be working with Akron and other Ohio Valley region zoos on this groundbreaking program.”
“What the world needs now more than anything else is hope, “ said Robert Buchanan, a renowned polar bear conservationist and founder of Arctic Action Teams along with his wife, Carolyn. “The most effective way to develop hope is through individual action, and the best way to take action by far is myActions.org.”
Akron Zoo participants are already active on myActions; a Winter Challenge runs from January 27 to February 19 and a Spring Challenge from March 31 to April 20. Earth Week (April 21-27) and Earth Day (April 22) will be a celebration of the One Million Actions. To join, visit http://www.myActions.org/Akron.
