Based in the New York City region, Bash the Trash (BTT) builds, performs and educates with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials. The group reaches out to students, families and educators throughout the world to spread their message of science-based environmental arts education. Co-director John Bertles provides professional development for educators in arts integration and environmental issues through the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Additionally, BTT provides master classes for graduate students in education, as well as internships, apprenticeships and training programs for new teaching artists. They work with over 50,000 students a year through live performances and residencies and more through web-based instruction and interaction. Visit www.bashthetrash.com to see the group in action.

Over the years they’ve jammed with Yo-Yo Ma, Max Roach, and Mister Rogers; performed on straw oboes at Carnegie Hall; led environmental parades through Washington DC; and created instrument designs for bored Australian elephants. Chagrin Arts is pleased to welcome them to Chagrin Falls this February at this family event where playing with trash is encouraged. Also featured will be the upcycled artwork of Gwen Waight from Mi Stuf and the Valley Art Center and Nicole McGee from Plenty Underfoot.

Now in its seventh season, the Chagrin Arts Performing Arts Series is a celebration of musical talent in many forms. Storytellers, environmentalists and time-travelers will come to Chagrin Falls this winter and spring to entertain and inspire all age groups. All series artists are new to the Chagrin Arts lineup and are excited to perform in the charming village of Chagrin Falls. The Bash the Trash performance on February 9 will be followed by Gershwin on the Air on April 6.
