Are Punxsutawney Phil and his fellow hibernators able to accurately predict the early arrival of spring?
Join Naturalist Dave Brumfield and wildlife rehabilitator Fran Kitchen to learn about groundhogs and their forecasting abilities, Saturday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m., at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, 2077 Newton St., Akron. This FREE program is appropriate for the whole family and will include a craft, a chance to see a live groundhog up close and a short hike, weather permitting.
“Groundhogs were a rare sight when Ohio was first settled,” said Brumfield. “However, as forested land was cleared for agriculture, the number of groundhogs increased significantly.”
Today, groundhogs can be found in each of Ohio’s 88 counties and throughout most of the United States.
