Published:

Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble will perform Spring in the East -- A concert for the Chinese New Year on Jan. 26 at the Hudson Library & Historical Society.

The ensemble will present a program of graceful and festive music -- including several pieces about horses -- played on an assortment of traditional Chinese musical instruments including dizi and xiao (bamboo flutes), sheng (mouth organ), erhu (fiddle), pipa (pear-shaped lute), yueqin (moon lute), gongs, drums, and other percussion. The ensemble will be joined by special guest vocalist Sandra Emmeline for several selections. The program will also include readings of several colorful stories and poems about horses from Chinese history.

As an added attraction, the library's Watson-Ewell-Currin Art Gallery will feature a showing of traditional Chinese watercolor paintings by the students of master painter Dorina Shen of Brecksville. The exhibit will run through March 31.

The concert is free and no tickets are required; arrive early for the best seats. For details, call 330-653-6658, ext. 1010 or visit http://www.hudsonlibrary.org/

The library is at 96 Library St. in Hudson.
