AKRON - The Akron Zoo’s popular Boo at the Zoo attracted 23,353 visitors this year, which makes it the 2nd most attended year in the event’s 25-year history. Great weather and the addition of the zoo’s new exhibit Mike & Mary Stark Grizzly Ridge are believed to be the reason for the successful year.
The zoo fell just 1,481 of their all-time Boo at the Zoo record, which was set in 2010, when 24,834 people visited. The event averages about 15,000 people per year. This year’s Boo at the Zoo ran October 12-13, 18-20 and 25-27. The event is one of the area’s largest trick-or-treating parties. It includes 12 themed treat stations that kids can trick-or-treat at while enjoying non-scary Halloween decorations and the zoo’s over 700 animals. The event is presented by Acme Fresh Markets.
The Akron Zoo is open 361 days a year. Winter hours, through April, are 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and admission is $6.00 per person. The parking fee is $2. For more information visit www.akronzoo.org or call 330-375-2550.
