Akron, Ohio - The Akron Zoo will host a brand new event, Teddy Bear Care Day, at the zoo on Nov. 2, 2013 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Everyone that brings in a teddy bear will receive 50% off admission. The zoo will also be highlighting their animal enrichment program that day, too.
The Berenstain Bears will be on-hand and the zoo vet staff will be giving teddy bears well visits during the event. Zoo staff will also educate people on how the doctors at the zoo keep the grizzly bears healthy. Teddy Bear Care Day is sponsored by SummaCare and Summa Health Systems.
During the event the animals will either be given seasonal items, like pumpkins or papier mache items with treats inside. Visitors will be able to see enrichment given to the penguins, lemurs, jaguars, snow leopards, lions, tigers, otters, grizzly bears, red wolves and more. A complete schedule, with times, is posted at www.akronzoo.org. Enrichment is anything given to the animals to stimulate their natural behaviors. Although the zoo does enrichment on a daily basis, this is an opportunity for the animal care staff to showcase to the public what they do for the animals everyday.
