Akron, OH – On Sept.17, the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank hosted the sixth annual Taste of the NFL at the new event center at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Approximately 500 guests in attendance raised enough to provide more than 700,000 meals to support hunger relief efforts in Northeast Ohio.
“This event is critical in supporting our efforts to build awareness and help the hungry in our area,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional
Foodbank. “We greatly appreciate the support from the community, and the willingness of those who join us in fighting hunger.”
Hall of Fame Enshrinees attended the event to mingle with guests and sign autographs. 2013 Hall of Fame inductee Curley Culp was a popular Enshrinee with guests. He was
joined by, Rayfield Wright, Jack Youngblood, Leroy Kelly, Randall McDaniel, Kellen Winslow, Tom Mack and John Randle.
This year’s event highlighted delectable cuisine and beverages provided by more than 20 local and national vendors. Some of the area’s top chefs came together to support the Foodbank and also to compete for the title of Taste of the NFL Grand Champion.
Guests walked from table to table sampling each purveyor’s dishes from: The Canton Club Event Center, Cilantro Thai & Sushi Restaurant, Chocolates by Erin, Davis Candies, D.B.A. Dante Boccuzzi Akron, Downtown 140, Dunkin’ Donuts, Georgio’s Grille, Hudson’s Restaurant & Catering, Kozmo’s Grille, Main Street Gourmet, Meeker Wines distributed by Esber Beverage, Nicoletti’s Park Place, Or Derv Foods, Pepsi Food Service, Perennial Vineyards, Robert J. Events & Catering, Shy Cellar, Troutman Vineyards, The Winery at Wolf Creek, The Wooster Inn, University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center.
Vaccaro’s Trattoria Shy Sellers was crowned the Grand Champion and will represent the Pro Football Hall
of Fame and the Foodbank at the national Taste of the NFL Event held on the eve of the Superbowl in 2015. Shy Sellers chefs served delicious fondue and slow roasted pork
with Asian barbeque sauce.
Meeker Vineyards from California was the featured winery at the event. Molly Meeker, co-owner of Meeker Vineyards, originally from Youngstown, was present to mingle with
guests and offer wine tasting tips.
Taste of the NFL is a partnership between NFL teams and food banks across the country. Local events are held in NFL cities throughout the year and a national Taste of the NFL is held on the eve of the Super Bowl. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank partners with the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
