Two commuters spar over crosswords, life in '2 ACROSS'

Jerry Mayer's romantic comedy "2 ACROSS," is playing at the River Street Playhouse, Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's second stage.

"2 ACROSS" is the story of two strangers, Josh and Janet. She's an organized, sensible, psychologist. He's a free spirited, unemployed ad exec. While she powers through the New York Times crossword puzzle, he is apt to flip to the sports section as soon as he hits a tough clue. Janet takes crosswords and life very seriously, while Josh treats both like a game.

Each commuting solo aboard a San Francisco BART train at 4:30 a.m., Janet (Chris White of Aurora) catches Josh (Adam Young of Hudson) tossing away his uncompleted crossword puzzle and challenges him to finish it. Thus begins a long, witty, and often poignant conversation in which the two help to solve each others' puzzles both on the paper and in their lives.

"2 ACROSS" plays Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 through March 16. Tickets are $10.

The play is not recommended for younger audiences due to some adult language. Tickets and information are available at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's website at www.CVLT.org, or by phone at 440-247-8955 between 1 and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre's River Street Playhouse is at the western end of River Street in historic Chagrin Falls Village.
