'Becky's New Car' drives into Stow Players, ends theater season

Published:

Stow Players wraps up its 60th season with "Becky's New Car," a dramatic comedy by Steven Dietz, opening March 8 and running through March 23. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with one matinee on Sunday, March 17, at 2:30 p.m.

Becky Foster (Pat Robertell-Hudson of Silver Lake) doesn't have a bad life; it has just become predictable and mundane. She has a decent job at a car dealership, a solid husband (Tom Marshall of Tallmadge), and a freeloading, psychology-major, 26-year-old son (Scott Foster of Uniontown) living in her basement.

One night, by chance, she's offered an opportunity to step into another life - she takes it - and the audience is offered a chance to ride shotgun. When socially inept and grief-stricken millionaire Walter Flood (Mike Guffey of Stow) stumbles into the car dealership one night and mistakenly presumes she is a widow, Becky soon finds herself leading a double life.

Others in the cast include Steve Harmath of Medina who plays Steve, Becky's hilarious, nosy, and granola-pushing co-worker at the car dealership; Charlotte Senters of Randolph as the predatory socialite Ginger who hopes to be the next Mrs. Flood; and Theresa Byron of Akron, who plays Kenni (short for Kensington), Walter's rebellious daughter.

Lorena Goold is directing the show.

Tickets for "Becky's New Car" are $12 general admission; $10 for senior citizens and students. There is a special opening night on March 8, "BOGO 5." With the purchase of a general admission ticket, a second can be purchased for $5. (This does not apply to the senior/student ticket). On March 17, anyone who comes to the show wearing green (in honor of St. Patrick's Day) will get $2 off the price of any ticket. Only cash or checks are accepted for ticket payment.

All Stow Players performances are in the Heritage Barn in Stow's Silver Springs Park, with access from the Young Road entrance only. Call 330-655-6051 for reservations and information. Information also can be found at www.stowplayers.net.
