Ellsworth Hill Elementary second graders Mark Salem and Auriah Danner were nominated and chosen for recognition by the "Kids Making a Difference" program, which is sponsored by The Royster Group and hosted by the Hudson Parent Teacher Organization. Honorable Mention was awarded to second graders Addison Frank, Maribeth Slater, Brody Thome, Christian Taylor, Kai Gondek, Blake Prado and Jonathan Susz. Students were chosen for their significant accomplishments or achievements in and/or out of school and for helping others and contributing to their school and community in a positive manner.
Mark Salem is in Mrs. Hall's class at Ellsworth Hill where his natural ability to help others shines through. Mrs. Hall is proud of Mark's selflessness in the classroom and the way he makes choices to help others without a second thought. Mark tries to include everyone and make them feel part of the team. Outside of school, Mark enjoys playing baseball with the Hudson Baseball Association, football for the Hudson Hawks and basketball with the Kiwanis. When he grows up, Mark would like to be a professional athlete and help as many people as he can to make the world a better place. Mark believes that kids can make a difference by being kind to others. "Being kind helpful and respectful to everyone makes a real difference."
Auriah Danner is a second grader at Ellsworth Hill in Miss Saluan's class. She was nominated for being "a loving, hardworking and determined young lady." Auriah prides herself on helping anyone who needs it, even if it's just sharing a smile or a hug to lift someone's spirits. Auriah participates in school events and HCER programs in order to sharpen the saw (as they saw at Ellsworth) and keep balance in her life. According to Miss Saluan, "Auriah is a leader because no matter what gets in her way, she perseveres and achieves her goals!"
The Hudson PTO congratulates these outstanding kids who are making a real difference in their school and community. The PTO thanks The Royster Group for their sponsorship of this program and for their generous donation each month. The proceeds of their donation will assist the children of the Hudson City Schools.
