Kent State University graduates

Kent State University awards nearly 3,000 degrees, with more than 545 accompanying institutional honors, and including 1598 bachelor's degrees, 668 master's degrees, 44 doctoral degrees, 254 associate degrees and 1 educational specialist degrees.

The following local students are fall 2016 Kent State University graduates:

Baker earns scholarship

Matthew Baker, of Hudson, 44236, was awarded the John and Frances Eoff Scholarship at the University of Findlay for the 2016-2017 academic year.

University of Alabama academic honors

A total of 11,758 students enrolled during the 2016 fall semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

Grove City College dean's list

The following students were names to the Dean's List for the Fall 2016 semester at Grove City College.

From Hudson: Nicholas Butler, Emily Flenniken, Paige Johnson, Maggie Rose Keating, Natalie Silk and Hannah Wright.

Grove City College graduate

Maggie Rose Keating is one of 60 seniors to earn their degree from Grove City College on December 20, 2016. Maggie Rose earned a bachelor of arts degree in communication studies. Maggie Rose is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Patrick Keating (Diana) from Hudson.

University of Akron graduates

Congratulations to over 1,230 students for earning their degree in the fall semester at the University of Akron.

Graduates form Hudson include: Taylor Akin with the bachelor of arts in English; Catherine Bedell with the bachelor of arts/social work in social work; Jessica Brioso with the master of public health in master of public health; Matthew Frantz with the bachelor of arts in strategic & organizational communication; Cory Lowrie with the associate of applied business in computer IS; Rachel Nichols with the bachelor of science in early childhood education and early childhood intervention; Kenneth Saltrick with the bachelor of arts in history; Kaylene Widdoes with the bachelor of science in applied mathematics; and Catherine Wilke with the bachelor of science in early childhood education.

From Peninsula: Anthony Bruce with the associate of applied science in electronic engineering tech; Michael Selzer with the master of arts in history; and Katherine Selzer with the master of business admin. in management.

University of Kentucky dean's list

A record number of students made the University of Kentucky dean's list for the fall 2016 semester. The 7,408 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance. That's an increase of more than 200 over the previous record reached in fall 2015 when the number of students on a UK Dean's List surpassed 7,000 for the first time.

Students from Hudson include:

Kacey Emma Eaton, Paige Julia Edwards, Kailey Elizabeth Francetic, Emily Christine Hart, Eden L Janesch, Audrey Marilynn Moeglin, Brendan Davis O'neil and Morgan Rose Peruzzi.

To make a dean's list in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the dean's list.

Kent State University president's list

The following local students made the president's list at Kent State University for the fall 2016 semester.

From Hudson: Eric Jacobstein, Layali Jadallah, Sarah Kutz, Kierstynn Lund, Molly Morris, Rachel Ramras, Talia Rockland, Kaylee Wichert and Audrey Wiryawan.

From Peninsula: Sara Booker, Shaheeda Haque and Ashley Hendrock.

Rhodes College dean's list

Hudson resident Julia D. Schiciano was named to the Rhodes College Dean's List for the 2016 fall semester. To qualify for the dean's list, a student must be enrolled in at least 16 credit hours of academic work and must achieve a semester grade point average of 3.70 or better.

Baldwin Wallace University graduate

Cory Turner of Hudson, a graduate of West Holmes High School, has graduated from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio with a master of business administration in accounting.

Miami University graduates

Miami University awarded degrees to students during fall commencement exercises Friday December 13, 2016, at Millett Hall.

Students from Hudson who received degrees include: Thomas Patrick McCarthy graduated with a bachelor of science in computer science; Kristen Anna Sweterlitsch graduated with a bachelor of science in kinesiology and health degree in nutrition; and Zachary James Zockoll graduated with a bachelor of science in marketing.
