Rachel Rafferty, a 2016 Hudson High School graduate, has been selected as the winner of the $500 Scholarship for Postsecondary Education. The scholarship is based on academic performance, community service, and an essay. The scholarship was awarded by Dr. Laura Adelman DMD and Associates, Inc. Adelman is a pediatric dentist in Twinsburg, Ohio.
Rafferty was selected from a pool applicants who were all former patients of Adelman; all former patients completing their senior year of high school were invited to apply.
"I was impressed with Rachel's internship work at the Cleveland Clinic," Adelman said. "It shows a unique level of focus and maturity for such a young age. It was a tough decision, though. All the applicants would have been worthy recipients!"
This is the third year Adelman has offered this award to former patients.
"I know this award won't pay for college," she said. "But I hope it helps with books or a new computer."
Rafferty, whose parents are Leah and Matthew Rafferty of Hudson, plans to study biochemistry and psychology at The Ohio State University starting this fall.
