Hudson - Nearly 1.6 million juniors from more than 22,000 high schools applied to be a part of the 62nd National Merit Scholarship Program. The total number of those who qualified as semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of the entire national high school population. Eight of them are Western Reserve Academy students.
This year's semifinalists are seniors Hyowon (Harrison) Ahn, Zachary Bloom, Noah Kontur, Jason Lin, Daniel Mylott, Nicholas Sabatino, Jaret Skonieczny and Alice Wu.
"We are proud that these eight members of the senior class at Western Reserve Academy have been recognized as National Merit semifinalists," said Director of College Counseling Gunnar Olson. "This recognition is a tribute to their hard work, dedication and exceptional ability, and we look forward to their continued success in the competition."
"The entire school community is extremely proud of our National Merit semifinalists this year," said Head of School Christopher D. Burner '80. "Each year, we are honored to have a group of students recognized for their academic achievements as National Merit finalists and semifinalists. This year's large group is a testament to our excellent students and distinctive college prep curriculum."
