Ellsworth students become leaders

Published:

As a research project each student in Mrs. Smoral's class chose a famous person to learn more about. Students used research strategies like I Remember, Read, Cover, Remember, Retell, The Key Word Strategy and Sketch to Stretch.

Students then presented their research to family members at a classroom Celebration of Famous People. The presentation gave the students the chance to practice their speaking skills. Students exhibited fluent reading and use of eye contact when speaking to an audience.

The celebration also gave the students a chance to discuss how leaders of the past exhibited The Seven Habits of Happy Kids. For example, Martin Luther King, began with the end in mind. As a young boy Martin had a dream that African Americans and whites would be treated fairly. Students made connections to leaders of the past while reminding themselves how they can be leaders of today.
