Hudson Montessori School Chess Club students, Aaron Bachman, Destynn Keuchel, Steven Kraus, Sera Mathew, Ilyana Smith, Nik Smith, Justin Vaden and Anika Yadati competed in the Canton Scholastic Chess League championship tournament at Alliance Middle School in February. Sera experienced her first chess tournament in the K-4 non-rated section. Out of her four games, she started her first tournament with two draws. Anika had her first win in the K-4 non-rated section, and Nik continued play in the K-2 non-rated section and received a trophy for his efforts. Ilyana and Justin both won three out of their four games, and tied for third place out of 30 players in each of the K-6 and K-4 non-rated sections respectively. In the rated K-5 championship section, Destynn got a perfect score winning all his five games, and received the first place trophy among 15 players. For Aaron, this was his best tournament ever as he won four out of five games, and received the second place trophy. Steven scored three points, and tied for fifth place. As a team, they scored a total of 12 points against their main competitor team with eight points, and became the champion.
