With a nod to the Main Street roadwork, artists of the 2nd Friday Art Hop will focus on construction and creation from 5-8 p.m. June 9. Uncommon Art Gallery and Studios (above Hudson Oriental Rugs) will host an Arty Construction party complete with Orange Barrel punch, Rocky Road ice cream and hard hats. Visitors will see work that's "under construction," hear about the artists' processes, and get a chance to create, too. Across the street at Open Door Coffee Co., the new Barista Gallery will open with work from talented employee/artists Shelby Johnson and Elaina Workley.
Creation continues at Hudson Fine Art & Framing with Rubber City Prints in house again this year with their portable press. Guests can try their hand at printmaking with prints to take for just $5. Down the block, Suburban Sit will be shining a light on the "Local Legends" featured in store over the past few months -- a salute to the talent in our backyards. These local artists create one-of-a-kind pieces and include string art by Handmade House Co., beer cap art from The Beer Trade and blown glass by Sebastian Shepherd.
Viva Bene Gourmet will feature work by Hudson watercolor artist Mary McKee DiStefano. Controlling paint and water, she creates paintings that capture the essence of her subject -- depicting the beauty in nature. Viva Bene Gourmet is located behind All Brides Beautiful and was the winner of the 2016 Hudson Small Business of the Year award.
In south Hudson, The Red Twig will feature the fused glass art of Carol Comer along with treats from Nosh Creative Catering. Comer says, "I am a public school art teacher and emerging artist who has finally found a media that truly inspires me. With glass I can create the depth, beauty and vibrancy of the world around me. My images are drawn from memories: places I have been and experienced or read about. They are universal in their appeal to us as human beings and our common life experiences."
MOD at First & Main will feature a variety of local and national artists and look for guest artists and activities at The Learned Owl, Fair Trade on Main and Russell Real Estate Services.
Art Hops are designed to promote the arts in Hudson. To do the "Hop," visitors download a map at www.hudsonarthop.com or pick one up at any of the participating locations. To learn more about 2nd Friday Art Hops, visit www.hudsonarthop.com or facebook.com/hudsonarthop.
