An evening with New York Times bestselling author Amor Towles

Amor Towles, New York Times bestselling author of "Rules of Civility" and "A Gentleman in Moscow," will speak on June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Hudson Library & Historical Society.

Towles will discuss his wildly popular latest novel, "A Gentleman in Moscow," about a 30-year-old Russian aristocrat who is sentenced to house arrest in a luxury hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Kirkus calls the book "a nonstop pleasure brimming with charm, personal wisdom, and philosophic insightThis is a book in which the cruelties of the age can't begin to erase the glories of real human connection and the memories it leaves behind. A masterly encapsulation of modern Russian history, this book more than fulfills the promise of Towles' stylish debut, Rules of Civility." The library's Between the Lines Book Club will be discussing "A Gentleman in Moscow" at their Aug. 14 meeting.

Born and raised in the Boston area, Towles graduated from Yale College and received an MA in English from Stanford University. His first novel, Rules of Civility, published in 2011, was a New York Times bestseller in both hardcover and paperback and was ranked by the Wall Street Journal as one of the best books of 2011. The book was optioned by Lionsgate to be made into a feature film and its French translation received the 2012 Prix Fitzgerald. His second novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, published in 2016, was also a New York Times bestseller and was ranked as one of the best books of 2016 by the Chicago Tribune, the Miami Herald, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the St. Louis Dispatch, and NPR. Both novels have been translated into over fifteen languages. Towles lives in Manhattan with his wife and two children.
