Larry and Rena Goss of Hudson traveled on a Russian River cruise from Moscow to St. Petersburg with stops at other towns in between the two cities. On the Moscow Kremlin tour, they brought the Hudson Hub-Times and stopped to admire the Tsar Bell. The bell is over 20 feet tall, over 200 tons, and has never rung. Casting was a challenge and a long story. The effort which began in the early 1700s was ultimately abandoned until 1836 when it was placed on a pedestal for display. Relief work on the bell consists of Christian likenesses and the Tsar Family members. Since the Gosses were active in handbell ringing for over 25 years, bells in general are special.
