Twinsburg -- The Hilton Garden Inn of Cleveland/Twinsburg, at 8971 Wilcox Drive, will partner with the American Red Cross for a special blood drive, Aug. 31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the hotel.
All who donate will receive a VIP coupon book from Aurora Farms Premium Outlets as well as be entered to win a "Back to School" prize pack courtesy of the Macedonia Office Depot and Office Max.
All donors can enjoy food provided by the Hilton Garden Inn of Cleveland/Twinsburg and the Cleveland Clinic. The Red Cross also will offer its thanks to those who donate blood through Aug. 31 by emailing donors a $5 Amazon.com gift card claim code.
While thousands of people from across the country responded to the emergency request issued by the American Red Cross in early July for blood and platelet donations, a critical blood shortage remains. The Red Cross urges eligible donors to give to help ensure blood is available throughout the remainder of the summer to meet patient needs.
Donors of all blood types are needed. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery patients, organ transplant patients and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease may all need blood.
To schedule an appointment to donate, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS. A blood donor card or driver's license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.
Individuals who are 17 (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass.
