The flea market slated for Aug. 30 at the Evaporator Works is not your grandma's flea market.

"The focus of the flea is to showcase vendors that up-cycle, and re-invent items that otherwise would be headed for landfills. So, it has a green emphasis," according to Randy Baun, one of the organizers and an owner of The Green Roots Collection shop in the Evaporator Works, 51 S. Main St. "The areas concentrated on are modern industrial, vintage up-cycles, architectural re-purposed, and made by hand. This includes lighting, furniture, home decor, and jewelry,"

The market, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be a once monthly event the last Saturday of the month through November.

Shoppers will be entertained with live music from Greg Workman / 9 Souls, an acoustic group from Peninsula, food trucks, and roughly 28 vendors from northeast Ohio.

The fee is $35 for a 10 x 10 foot space, and $55 for a 20 x 10 foot space for the day. This is a juried flea marked. Email to info@greenrootscollection.com or call 330-653-5405 for more information.

The Shops at the Evaporator Works is a private property made up of five buildings in a park-like campus of more than 4 acres. The property has access from both Main and Ravenna streets.

The Evaporator Works is an historic landmark. It's the site of the invention of the evaporator used to refine maple sap to make syrup. The Works, according to a spokesperson, is currently experiencing a surge of new tenants since the vacation of city offices.

Eight independent shops and boutiques have moved to the campus: Green Roots Collection, Outfitters Woman's Clothing, Winds of Change Boutique, Chentini Gallery, Molly Taylor Designs, Love Bugs Bakery, Birdseye Design, and Galanti Cafe.

There is ample free parking on the property.

In addition to entertainment, there will be a food truck on campus and an educational seminar is slated for 2:30 p.m.

This will be a 30-minute talk on a topic relevant to the interests of Flea attendees, according to Baun.

The flea market will be going on at the same time as the Hudson Farmers Market, which is on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. nearby on the Village Green.
