Akron - The Fairlawn and Hudson Schools of Music are hosting their 2nd annual Rock for a Good Cause concert to benefit the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank's Harvest for Hunger campaign on March 22 at Musica, 51 E. Market St, Akron. The goal for the 2014 Rock for a Good Cause concert is $1,000, enough for the Foodbank to provide 4,000 meals locally.
Seven student bands will perform on stage at Musica in downtown Akron to raise awareness of hunger issues in the community. To participate in Rock for a Good Cause, students were asked to research and report on hunger in Northeast Ohio, and the work of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.
"We want to not only raise money for the Foodbank, but we really want our students to understand the issue of hunger and why their performance for this charity concert is important; how it is making a difference in the lives of our neighbors," Kurt Reed, owner of the Fairlawn and Hudson Schools of Music said.
For Reed, this concert not only allows students to use their talents to give back to the community, but also gives them valuable performance experience.
The bands scheduled to perform are: 4 to 4:30 p.m. - Six Gun Salvo; 4:40 to 5 - Nate Stanton; 5 to 5:10 - Rock N Royalty; 5:30 to 6 - Three Legged Chair; 6:10 to 6:40 - Two of a Kind; 6:50 to 7:20 - Halfway Home; 7:30 to 8 - The Jammin' Dans; and 8 to 8:20 - No Expectations.
Instead of paying admission to the concert, guests will be asked to donate $5 or 10 non-perishable food items for the Foodbank, where $1= 4 meals.
Austin Bianco, a member of the band Halfway Home, is a senior at Aurora High School and performed in the first Rock for a Good Cause concert last year.
"It means a lot to us to be making a difference in people's lives with our music," Austin said. "We are very passionate about what we do, and the fact that we can help raise money with it is fantastic. We are honored to be a part of Rock for a Good Cause!"
In addition to the Rock for a Good Cause concert, the Fairlawn and Hudson Schools of Music are hosting a food & funds drive at both locations, and are a sponsor of the AkrontoCanton Regional Foodbank's Virtual Idol competition.
