Macedonia - Beginning Jan. 6, the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio is continuing the nearly 100- year tradition of the Girl Scout Cookie sale.
The 2014 lineup includes favorites, such as Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos, Tagalongs, Trefoils and Savannah Smiles. The cookie program activity is the nation's largest girl-led business and the leading financial literacy program for girls. Designed for girls in grades K-12, it is a key element of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
The sale begins with girls taking orders from families, friends and neighbors at their homes and offices. For those who miss out on the in-person sales, they can still find their favorite cookies being sold at booth sales beginning March 14 where troops will set up in front of local businesses and shopping centers across the area. A cookie booth locator app can be downloaded for the iPhone and Android devices by texting **GSCookies. The sale ends on March 30.
Cookies cost $4 per package and the proceeds stay right here in northeast Ohio to benefit girls and the very communities where Girl Scouts live. Last year, cookie customers who donated their purchase to the GSNEO Gift of Caring project - Operation: Sweet Appreciation - sent 37,525 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to members of the military serving overseas.
