Give something that means something and offer hope

CLEVELAND, Ohio (December 11, 2013) — The holidays bring families and friends together to share in celebrations and special times of giving. But for families dealing with a cancer diagnosis or other major illness, the holidays can be difficult.

The American Red Cross’ Give Something that Means Something winter campaign encourages eligible donors to give something meaningful this holiday season by donating blood or platelets for hospital patients in need. Blood donors in northern Ohio are invited to give at the 5th Annual Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls holiday blood drive on Monday, December 23 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  The hotel is located at 1989 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls.

All who come to donate will be automatically entered to win a grand raffle prize courtesy of Summa Health System that includes: a 60” TV, XBOX 360 gaming system, & a Blu Ray player! Also, one runner-up will receive a free Apple iPad courtesy of Gavin Scott Salon & Spa! Enjoy special refreshments courtesy of Summa Health System and Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls. Also, donors have the chance to win one of 50 raffle prizes and will also receive a free goody bag including: a gift card for a free hair cut to Gavin Scott Salon & Spa, a pixie poinsettia from The Greenhouse of Hudson, a gift from Connecting Touch Therapy & Wellness Center and more!

“Historically, during the winter months of November, December and January, fewer donors make the time to give blood due to competing seasonal activities, celebrations and holiday shopping,” said Christy Sabaka, Communications Program Manager of the Red Cross Northern Ohio Blood Services Region. “By doing something that doesn’t cost a thing, you can give an amazing gift – you can offer hope to a patient in need.”

Appointments are strongly recommended for this blood drive.  Donors can visit redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code “summa” or call 1-800 RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule an appointment.  The Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls holiday blood drive is sponsored by: Summa Western Reserve Hospital, Village of Silver Lake, Summa Health System, 94.9 WQMX, 1590 WAKR, 97.5 WONE, Sheraton Suites Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, Gavin Scott Salon and Spa, the City of Cuyahoga Falls and Papa John’s Pizza.
