Cuyahoga Falls, OH—The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter will hold its 2013 Town Hall meeting on September 19 at The Natatorium, 2345 Fourth St., Cuyahoga Falls from 7-8:30 p.m. The annual program invites those living with Alzheimer’s disease, caregivers, family, friends and healthcare professionals to provide input on their personal journeys and to discuss ways to make Alzheimer’s disease a national priority through advocacy and funding.
Federal legislators, representing constituents in the chapter’s service area, have been invited to attend and hear first-hand the public health crisis of Alzheimer’s disease, which is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. All Information shared in the Town Hall meeting will be documented and forwarded to members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate who represent the Alzheimer’s Association’s Greater East Ohio Area Chapter.
Today more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. The costs of caring for those with the disease will total an estimated $203 billion in 2013 including $142 billion in costs to Medicare and Medicaid. With projections of 16 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s by 2050, the costs are expected to rise to $1 trillion per year. Currently, there is no chronic disease that affects so many without a way to cure, prevent or even slow its progression.
A special part of the program will be presented by Joan Uronis, who is living with early stage Alzheimer’s, having been diagnosed at the age of 61 in 2011. She is an Alzheimer’s Association Early Stage Advisor and has traveled throughout the country serving as a strong and inspiring advocate telling the story of her own personal journey with the disease.
Town Hall attendees will also receive updates on the National Alzheimer’s Plan, information from the Alzheimer’s Association 2013 Facts & Figures Report, and how to champion the mission by becoming advocates.
For those planning to attend, please RSVP by Monday, Sept. 16 by calling 1-800-272-3900 or e-mail Theresa Depp at firstname.lastname@example.org.
