First United Methodist Church in Cuyahoga Falls events for Sept. 2

Summer worship at First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, is at 10 a.m. each Sunday.

Sunday School begins at 9 a.m. and child care is available for infants through preschoolers all morning. Regular Sunday worship at 8:30 and 11 a.m. will begin on Sept. 11.

Fifth Quarter is a program at First Church for youth in grades six through 12. It takes place on Fridays after the home football games at Falls High from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. The next one is Sept. 9. Come for games, snacks, fun and friendship. Permission slips are available at www.epworthyouth.com.

Join Going Strong, a group of active retirees, on Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. to hear speaker Mary Faktor. Her program, “Inner Voices, Smart Choices,” will promote life balance, stress reduction, and relationship communication. Faktor is a professional speaker, actor and author who is a regular guest on network and cable TV shows; she has presented many workshops locally, nationally and internationally. Refreshments will be served following the program.

The First Church Concert Series will present pianist Jooyoung Kim on Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. Dr. Kim serves as Adjunct Piano Professor at Indiana Wesleyan and is a Steinway artist. She has been critically acclaimed on international stages for her dazzling technique, superb musicianship, and exquisite artistry. Since making her debut at the age of 12 as a soloist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Kim has presented numerous solo and chamber recitals in Korea, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Russia, and the United States.

ROCK, a midweek children’s ministry for age 4 through sixth grade, starts Sept. 7. It begins with choirs at 4:30 p.m. followed by rhythm for preschoolers, boomwhackers for kindergarteners, chimes for second- and third-graders, and bells, cooking, or puppets for fourth- to sixth-graders. Dinner follows, then crafts, chess and more. Pick up time is 7:15 pm. Come for the entire evening or come for any part of it.
