First Serve Serve First, a day of service to the community sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Hudson, returns Sept. 8 and will expand its reach beyond Hudson this year.
In 2012 the church had more than 600 members and friends go out to the Hudson area to clean parks, help with landscaping, paint and do other projects. Additionally, some members stayed at the church and worked on preparing meals for donations to military families, wrapping cutlery for a homeless shelter, sorting items for several area food banks and much more. In total the participants of the event gave almost 2,500 hours toward 30 projects that day.
On Sept. 8 the church will go out into Hudson and will have additional projects in surrounding communities. Projects will include roof repair, interior painting, garden clean-ups, wood prep for winter and more. Church members will meet for worship from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the church and then go out into the community on approximately 37 teams that they have pre-registered to work with. The teams will work throughout the day then come back together at the church in the evening for a Celebration Potluck Dinner at 6 p.m.
Sign-ups are in process on this great effort. If a day of service is something you would like to share in and you would be interested to know more, stop by the church for information, call the event coordinator Karen Joshi at the church office 330-650-4048, or the best option is to go to the church website at www.hudsonucc.org, click on "Grow and Serve" and see all the project descriptions and sign-up to be involved.
