The book is about Princess Scarlet Elwen, 15 years old and the lone survivor of the royal family after her family is murdered and invaders overrun the kingdom. She goes into hiding in plain sight, calling herself Newle, and works as the cook's scullery maid.

While plotting to regain her family's throne, she is discovered and must flee to preserve her life.

Story time on Feb. 26 will feature author Michael Samulak and his books "A Wonderful Day," about a family trip to the zoo, and "A is for Africa," a reference and coloring book.

Children from 4 to 8 are invited to join us as we learn about Africa and its culture, do some coloring and read a couple of stories about the African American experience in our country.

There is no cost to this program, but we ask that you call to sign up so we know how many to expect.

A special story time on March 12 at 2 p.m. will involve reading two stories suitable for 3- to 8-year-olds that focus on the importance of kindness.

"Each Kindess" was written by Jacqueline Woodson. It reminds us of how even the smallest act of kindness can make a difference in someone's life. Ms. Woodson has won the Newbery Honor Award, the Coretta Scott King Award and the National Book Award, and the book is also beautifully illustrated by E. B. Lewis.

"Because Amelia Smiled" was written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein, the creator of many award-winning picture books, including "Interrupting Chicken" and "Leaves," among others. Amelia's kindness ripples through her community and beyond in interesting and unexpected ways.

There is no fee for this event, but we ask that you call to reserve a spot. There will be an activity or two and a snack as well and want to have plenty of supplies available.

Children's author Lindsay Ward will visit April 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Come to meet the author and get your own signed copy of her new book, "Brobarians."

This is the tale of two warriors, once at peace, now at odds. Iggy the Brobrarian has taken over the land. Can Otto the Big Brobarian win it back? Or maybe, with a little helpf, the two brothers can find peace again.

This is an epic - and adorable - story of sibling rivalry and resolution.

Local author Cinda Williams Chima will visit April 4 at 6 p.m. to introduce her new book, "Shadowcaster," the second book in the Shattered Realms series. The story is set in the world of the acclaimed Seven Realms series a generation later.

The first book in the series, "Flamecaster," is a thrilling story of dark magic, chilling threats and two unforgettable characters walking a knife-sharp line between life and death.

"Shadowcaster," the second in the four-part series, tells of the unfathomable costs of war, the allure of dark magic and conflicted characters drawn together despite everything they are putting at risk.
