It's that time of summer again, when one can savor the taste of vine ripened tomatoes. It's a special time of year that the folks at Hudson Farmers Market believe is worth celebrating. The annual Tomato Festival will take place on Aug. 23. The market's hours will be extended to 1:30 p.m. to accommodate visitors who want to attend Art on the Green and shop at the market, too.
Marketgoers are invited to sample a variety of tomatoes available at the market, as well as items, such as salsa, prepared by vendors. A tomato contest will be the highlight of the day. Home gardeners are invited to enter their own tomatoes in the contest. There is no entry fee and tomatoes can be brought to the market by 9 a.m. Saturday morning. For each variety of tomato entered in the contest, gardeners are asked to bring enough for tasting and displaying. Vendors will vie against each other for the title of best tasting tomato at the market.
The festival will offer lots of facts and tips about cooking with tomatoes. Local celebrities will judge the best home grown tomatoes and the best tomatoes from market vendors.
Nikki and Patrick Custy will provide musical entertainment during the festival.
