According to a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, 7 percent of households within the United States reported some type of identity theft during 2013. That theft amounted to financial losses of over $21 billion.
Shredding confidential information to protect personal information and sensitive data is one step towards protection from identity theft. Plus it is a good way to recycle paper.
"Shredding might be inconvenient, but it's absolutely necessary -- and it's fundamental to protecting your identity," said ReWorks Executive Director Yolanda Walker.
The free event is for Summit County residents and businesses only. There is a limit of 10 file boxes or shopping bags per vehicle.
ReWorks will hold additional on-site document shredding events Sept. 13 in Barberton and Oct. 4 in Akron.
