Hudson Farmers Market would like people to meet Mike Mistur and Ryan Brannon of Bent Tree Coffee Roasters in Kent:
Most people enjoy starting the day off with a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee, so the folks at Hudson Farmers Market thought it would be fitting to start off their series of vendor profiles with coffee vendor, Bent Tree, where you'll find help getting that first jolt of the day. Bent Tree sells coffee by the pound, as well as cups of hot and iced coffee.
Mistur and Brannon, longtime friends who enjoyed roasting their own coffee at home, brewed over the idea of a coffee roasting business venture for more than 10 years before they finally decided the time was right to start their business in July 2011. They roast their coffee beans in small batches right in historic downtown Kent, using products from suppliers who provide organic beans and follow Fair Trade practices. They use environmentally friendly supplies, such as compostable plastics.
Mistur, who's from Kent, and Brannon, who grew up on Cleveland's West Side, met while they were students at Kent State University. Brannon went on to be an educator and Mike worked in the corporate world before they were able to get back together and make their dream a reality. They say they want the focus of their business to be "just coffee."
Hudson Farmers Market is still accepting vendors for the 2014 season, which starts June 7 and runs through Oct. 11. Contact the market manager by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
