Akron, OH – FirstMerit Bank is encouraging their employees and customers to support the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank’s annual Harvest for Hunger campaign. To become involved in the campaign, simply bring a non-perishable food item or financial donation to any of the 60 FirstMerit Bank locations in Akron or Canton from now until April 26.

“FirstMerit has been supporting communities since 1845 and nowhere more than our hometown of Akron,” said Nick Browning, president and CEO of FirstMerit’s Akron region. “I am confident that the wonderful people who live and work in the Akron-Canton area will come out to help their neighbors in need.”

Harvest for Hunger, one of the nation’s largest food & funds drives, is a 21-county effort that runs through the end of April. Every dollar donated through Harvest for Hunger provides four meals to those facing hunger in the community. All donations made at FirstMerit Bank remain local, and provide emergency food at no cost to pantries, hot meal sites and shelters.

“FirstMerit Bank has proven to be a strong partner in the fight against hunger,” said Dan Flowers, President and CEO of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. “We are extremely grateful for companies like FirstMerit Bank who are truly invested in helping those in need all year long.”
