Donate your hair to Locks of Love and receive a free haircut at Great Clips of Hudson.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
According to a spokesperson, Locks of Love seeks to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial needs.
The 220 Group Ltd., which in Hudson does business as Great Clips of Hudson, donated more than 150 "pony-tails" to Locks of Love last year. Hair must be more than 10 inches in length to donate -- it may be colored or permed, but it cannot be bleached, due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. It generally takes between eight to 12 ponytail donations to create a child's hairpiece.
Great Clips of Hudson is located in the Acme Plaza, next to Panera, and is open Monday through Friday from 9-9; Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 10-5. Check in online at the website
