Hudson -- If you're looking for unusual and unique floral arrangements, or need someone to plan your next event, Michelle Touve-Holland has a suggestion for you -- visit The Red Twig, her new shop.
The Red Twig, 5245 Darrow Road, is a combination floral design studio, event planning center and art gallery. It's housed in a garage that used to be part of a turkey farm, according to its new tenant.
"This is a great space. I just love it," she said. "When people come in I say 'Welcome to my adventure.'"
The shop owner's creativity is evident as soon as one enters her New York loft-style facility. Unusual arrangements, decorative corners, various forms of interesting lighting and imaginative signage and art placement (on old doors) gives visitors an insight into her inventive mind.
Rough-hewn work tables, constructed by her husband, David, complete the decor.
"All of my floral designs are custom-made," she explained. "Your choices are limitless."
She described her arrangements as unique -- tailored to individual events.
"I focus on the event and can offer a wide array of arrangements," she said. "I don't do the typical arrangements."
Touve-Holland, a mother of a 10- and 4-year-old, may look like a teenager, but has been in the floral and event planning industry for 14 years.
After attending Kent State University, Touve-Holland worked for several local florists as a designer but decided to open her own business.
"I started the business in 2006 from my home," the owner / operator Touve-Holland said.
In August she opened at her present location.
The Red Twig is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed Sunday.
This month she is showcasing her work along with artist Lyndse Rae Faba, an abstract painter and Idris Kabir Syed, a ceramic artist.
Born in Toledo, the owner / operator has traveled all over the country and is currently making her home in Streetsboro.
