Akron, OH – Free tax filing services are available to area residents through a tax clinic hosted by the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. Most households with an adjusted gross income of less than $65,000 per year filing single tax returns and $95,000 per year for married couples filing joint tax returns can use the Ohio Benefit Bank to file their taxes.
The Ohio Benefit Bank is a free service that simplifies the tax and benefit application process, making it easier – and faster – for individuals and families to access the programs they need to live healthy, secure lives.
Clients will be seen by appointment only. This service is available at the Akron-Summit County Main Public Library on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Taxes are prepared by Ohio Benefit Bank counselors and trained volunteers. To schedule your appointment, please contact Mary Ann Mills, Community Organizer, Ohio Benefit Bank, call 330-777-1051 or email@example.com.
Eligible participants must bring:
- Photo proof of identification
- Social Security Numbers for client and all dependents
- Income forms, such as W2’s, 1099’s, 1098’s
- Information about other income (ex: interest income)
- Deduction and credit information (ex: child care expenses, tuition bills, union dues)
- A copy of last year’s tax return
If the date does not fit your schedule, you may also find an Ohio Benefit Bank site providing tax services located near you by calling 1-800-648-1176 or using the site locator on our website at www.ohiobenefits.org. Eligible individuals may also use this website to prepare their taxes themselves for free. The website is designed, not only to help individuals and families prepare and electronically file their taxes, but also to enable Ohioans to claim all credits for which they are eligible at no cost, as well as review potential eligibility for other community support.
The counselors need help to make this event successful! Looking for a way to give back to your community? The free tax filing clinic is also looking for volunteers to assist the counselors. To volunteer, please have basic computer skills, and contact Mary Ann Mills to learn more about this new opportunity.
