Erin Barkis, Teller Team Leader, of Huntington National Bank in Hudson, was honored with the prestigious Patriot Award from an arm of the Department of Defense - the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
She was nominated by her employee, Lauren Bochkor, whose husband is a 1st Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. Presentation of this award was made by retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Chaker Fadel, who serves as the employer outreach coordinator for the ESGR in NE Ohio. The Patriot Award is presented to an individual who has shown exceptional support of the National Guard and Reserves forces.
ESGR seeks to develop and promote a culture in which American employers support and value the military service of their employees.
"During my husband's deployment to Afghanistan, I gave birth to our first child," said Bochkor. "Since he was gone, I had to bear all parental responsibilities myself while working at Huntington National Bank. My supervisor, Erin Barkis, went above and beyond to ensure that I had a sufficient amount of work hours while still being able to take care of our infant son. Erin was extremely supportive of our family during our time of need and continues to support us as we transition from a deployment to a monthly drill schedule."
"I have worked with Lauren for over two years," said Barkis. "I have seen the sacrifices she and her husband have made while he has been in the military. I saw the struggle she made going through most of her pregnancy only having phone calls and emails from Josh, then becoming a single mom for the first couple months while also worrying about Josh over in Afghanistan. It is my honor to work beside a family that shows such strength and dedication. I want to personally say 'Thank You' to Lauren and Josh and to all of our service members for protecting our country."
