Acme names new
director of marketing
Katie Swartz has been promoted to the new position of Director of Marketing at Acme Fresh Market. In this newly-created position, Swartz will manage all aspects of the company's positional and promotional communications. As Director of Marketing, Swartz will provide the leadership and guidance for Acme through print and social media, market analytics, consumer research, loyalty and mobile applications.
Swartz will also be responsible for Acme Fresh Market's community relations, including the company's sponsorship of special events such as the Akron Marathon, Boo at the Akron Zoo, First Night Akron and Community Cash Back.
Swartz will report to Jim Trout, executive vice president, and lead Acme's current team of advertising and special event associates.
Swartz has been employed by Acme Fresh Market for three years. She earned her law degree and her MBA from The University of Akron. Swartz and her husband Mike live in Akron and are both involved in the greater Akron community. Swartz currently serves on the University of Akron National Alumni Board and is a trustee of The F.W. Albrecht Family Foundation.
The Fred W. Albrecht Grocery Co. operates 15 Acme Fresh Market stores in Summit, Stark, Portage and Cuyahoga counties. Founded in 1891, the stores feature food, pharmacy and general merchandise with an emphasis on quality fresh foods.
Sweet treats to benefit Heart Association
Hershey's of Hudson/Chocolates of Hudson will donate 10 percent of its profits made from the sale of chocolate covered strawberries during the Valentine season to the American Heart Association in conjunction with the Merchants of Hudson's fundraiser.
Hershey's, 50 W. Streetsboro St., will be dipping large sweet strawberries into milk, dark and white chocolate between Feb. 9 and 16. Ordering in advance is suggested, but walk-ins are welcome. The cost is $24.95 for a baker's dozen. Smaller quantities are available.

Vampire tale author visits book shop
Kelley Grealis will bring her debut book "The Descendant" to the Learned Owl Book Shop, 204 N. Main St., Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. The book describes the biblical origin of vampires.
Grealis was born and raised in Cleveland. She has a bachelor's degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and a master's degree from Cleveland State University. She reports she has loved all things vampire since she was a little girl, and that passion combined with 13 years of Catholic schooling, that inspired her to write "The Descendant."

Laurel Lake hosts
winter open house
Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson will host a winter open house Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. Visitors will mix and mingle with Laurel Lake residents in the Lakeside Dining Room as they enjoy light refreshments. A panel of resident experts will share their thoughts about the advantages of Laurel Lake living.
Afterwards, a guided walking tour of Laurel Lake's 100,000-square-foot Commons will include the Fitness & Aquatic Center, two campus restaurants, pub, bank, library, gift shop and more. Meet presidents at Yours Truly Feb. 17
Yours Truly Restaurant, 36 S. Main St., in Hudson will host "Dinner with the Presidents" Feb. 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to commemorate the Presidents' Day holiday. Professional portrayers of President and Mrs. James A. Garfield, President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln, presidents Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, and George Washington, and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt will stroll through the restaurant entertaining and educating guests. Portrayers may vary.
Adults and children will be invited to play presidential trivia games to win prizes. Guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite president or First Lady.
