Ski Patrol Safety Week observed

National Ski Patrol Safety Week will be observed at Boston Mills/Brandywine ski resort Jan. 19 through Jan. 26. As part of this national campaign, ski patrols nationwide are encouraged to host a diverse number of programs and events that promote safety. Each of these ski patrols have joined together to increase community awareness and be advocates for safety, according to a spokesperson. Ski patrols locally will attempt to catch skiers and snowboarders in the act of "making good choices." The theme for safety week is "Lead by Example" and customers seen wearing helmets, picking up debris from the ground, checking on an injured skier, taking turns, waiting for a friend, or similar activities will be recognized by ski patrollers and awarded a pin for jackets that says "Lead by Example."

The hope is that customers will wear the pin proudly and might even pass the pin to some other deserving person. Borrowing the concept of "paying it forward," the ski patrol hopes to encourage people to make good choices when it comes to safety, according to a safety week spokesperson.

The National Ski Patrol is a member-driven professional organization of registered ski patrols striving to be recognized as the premier provider of training and education programs for emergency rescuers serving the outdoor recreation community. To meet that goal, and promote the safe enjoyment of snow sport enthusiasts, NSP supports its members through accredited education and training in leadership, outdoor emergency care, safety programs and transportation services. Boston Mills/Brandywine reportedly has the largest patrol in the United States. This year, the National Ski Patrol celebrates its 75th Anniversary and the Boston Mills/Brandywine ski patrol celebrates it's 50th Anniversary.
