NEW YORK (AP) -- Five flight attendants have suffered minor injuries after a Beijing-bound plane from Newark International Airport experienced turbulence and was forced to turn back and land.
Port Authority Police Department spokesman Joe Pentangelo says United Airlines Flight 89 landed at Newark at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, about 45 minutes after it had initially taken off.
He says the plane landed, docked safely and emergency workers treated the flight attendants at the scene for minor bumps and bruises.
He said no passengers were injured.
A spokeswoman for United Airlines said the aircraft was carrying 189 passengers and 16 crew members. She says the airline is reviewing the incident.
