Ohio authorities try to identify body from river

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities were trying to determine if a body pulled from a river in southeast Ohio is that of a man missing for more than a month.

Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle said two boaters found the body in the Hocking River on Monday afternoon. A coroner was trying to identify the person.

Police have been searching extensively for 21-year-old Sam Wiater (WY'-ahtur), who went missing from his Athens apartment on March 13. Police had reason to believe he had committed suicide in the Hocking River but previous searches of the river and surrounding area turned up nothing.

Foul play is not suspected in the case.

The river runs through the Ohio University campus, but Wiater -- whose family lives in the Columbus suburb of Pickerington -- was not a student.
