CINCINNATI (AP) -- A 9-month-old baby died after being pulled by divers from a southwest Ohio retention pond into which her stroller had rolled, authorities said Tuesday.
The Hamilton County coroner's office reported that the girl died Monday at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. She was flown there after being pulled from water that was about 10 feet deep.
Authorities in the north Cincinnati suburb of West Chester Township said the girl was with her grandparents and other children Monday afternoon when she went into the pond. Police said she was strapped into the stroller when it rolled off a paved path in a subdivision. It's not clear what the grandparents were doing at the time. A neighbor called 911, reporting that she heard people screaming and believed someone was drowning in the pond.
Township firefighters who went into the pond found the girl and stroller submerged in water about 5 to 6 feet off the bank. Crews performed rescue breathing.
Township authorities identified the girl as Bella Shi and said her death was ruled an accident.
Children's Hospital said it had no information to release about the girl.
