Police in Cincinnati say homicide suspect killed

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Cincinnati police say a homicide suspect has been fatally shot after a confrontation with officers responding to the scene.

Police say they received a report of a domestic disturbance at about 5 a.m. Monday. While officers were on the way, police were informed of a possible homicide and of an armed man inside a home. Police say 37-year-old Gregory Sanders confronted officers with a firearm that had a bayonet attached, and that he was killed by the officers. Police say they later found that Sanders' weapon was not loaded.

Police say they found the body of Sanders' mother inside the house in the Walnut Hills neighborhood and she had been stabbed.

Officials say that the officers involved were put on the standard administrative leave while the investigation continues.
