Cincinnati to demolish 240 blighted buildings

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The city of Cincinnati plans to knock down 240 abandoned and condemned buildings over the next five months.

The move is part of the city's $7 million share of a national settlement with mortgage companies.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (http://cin.ci/1lobkOn ) the city demolished just under 300 buildings this year.

Cincinnati officials say the remaining building should come down by the end of May.

The mortgage settlement money is to help cities clear abandoned and condemned properties that have grown in big numbers since the housing collapse in 2008.
