Police seek help to ID driver in Ohio hit-and-run

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Police in southwest Ohio are seeking public help to identify the driver that struck a pedestrian, who died days later.

Dayton police on Friday issued a plea for help to find a suspect in the hit-and-run that occurred the evening of Dec. 5. The pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old Ritchie Gelvin, suffered severe head injuries and died Dec. 8.

Sgt. Aaron Fraley says Gelvin lived a few blocks from where he stepped into a roadway and was struck.

Police say the driver fled without trying to help Gelvin. They're not sure whether the driver was a man or a woman.

They say the vehicle was described as a small foreign car in a light color, perhaps silver or white, and that it would have front-end damage and possibly windshield damage.
